I was born in Russia in 1989, the year in which the Berlin Wall fell, and along with it came the weakening of the communism. Quite an interesting period in World’s history, right? My hometown is the city of Murmansk, the largest city located over the Arctic Circle and the major port on the Arctic Ocean.
I know that sounds pretty “cold” and it certainly is, with temperatures around -20/-30 in winter, but the climate is moderate due to the presence of the warm Gulf Stream, flowing from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. This phenomenon keeps the waters ice-free even in the cold winter. The city is well known for being the home port to “Atomflot”, the world's only fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers. If you’re wondering if it’s possible to see the Northern Lights in Murmansk, the answer is “yes, you can”. Pretty impressive, huh?
My childhood was a very Russian stereotyped one, starting with my Gymnastics classes, and followed by a highly disciplined 5 years in a music Conservatory with violin classes.
When I was 12 my family took the decision to move to Argentina, so we packed our life in 2 massive suitcases and a box and we headed to Buenos Aires, to conquer the American Continent.
So there were the 3 of us, in Buenos Aires, not speaking a word of Spanish, building a new life. But that’s a very long story, that I won’t dig deep in now.
After living in Buenos Aires over 12 years and after finishing my School Degree I felt overwhelmed by the intensity and the non-stopping rhythm of the big city and took the decision to move to Bariloche, in the Patagonia region, on the south of Argentina.
You have to go there to understand how easy was to fall in love with its crystal clear lakes, pure air, mountains, forests, rivers full of life, the Andes… what can I say about The Andes? No need to speak, they do it themselves. All that nature, plus great friends along the way, unbelievably good beer and chocolate, It’s all I needed to be happy and spend there 6 of the best years of my life. This is the place I’ll call home no matter where in the world I’ll be based, since it has the most special place in my heart.
When I was 29 my curious, freedom loving spirit decided it was time for new adventures, and so I did. I packed my life in 2 suitcases and bought a one-way ticket to the place where my story began, Russia.
This time I explored other Russian cities like Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Nizhniy Novgorod, and others, and I even explored the neighbour Estonia. Working for the 2018 FIFA World Cup made it an absolutely hectic and unforgettable trip.
After 4 months in Russia, I bought a one-way ticket to Australia. I landed in Sydney and after 2 weeks I was looking for my first job in the tropical Queensland’s city of Cairns. When the rain season started I escaped to Melbourne, visiting all the stunning spots on the East Coast along the way. And here I am, 2 years later and after meeting my partner in crime and taking the decision to make Australia my new home. Who knows what adventures are coming next!
